Last week we re-created the greatest of our childhood road trips to Hilton Head, SC. We would pack up the suburban each summer, every cup holder full with something other than a cup, every pit stop closer to that sweet, warm smell of pine straw mulch. We laid across each other's laps, watched for South of the Border billboards and made such a mess of that poor car. More often than not, my parents drove us through the night and I remember twirling the hair of whichever sister was sleeping so sweetly over my lap, cruising down I-95. I'm certain there was also a huge amount of complaining and kicking of faces. This time we did it with a baby. It was a trip I will smile about forever. Between Julie's, Jill's, and my iPhone, plus a couple shots from Allison's big camera, we captured some moments of heaven-- Aris diving face first into his first ice cream cone and the true act of embracing early mornings. How beautiful are my sisters? This place takes me straight back to sun kissed baby girls without boyfriends, sand dollars, sandwiches & pickles, arms wrapped around dad's neck. Life is moving and I'm lucky to have them beside me. The night of the Summer Solstice we watched our stunning cousin marry her soulmate. Everyone had sparkles dancing in their eyes for her. Summery and southern whites, prosecco, bebe bow ties, grateful to be included in such a lovely evening. Aris tried hard to keep up with cousins Gracie and Mark-- we took a little nap in the fanciest handicap bathroom you have ever seen. My parents were wonderful with him that night. He fell asleep on my shoulders while dancing, but rallied for the bubble send off. Love grows and grows, here's to Lyndsay & Peter.

Lauren, Spenser's beautiful wife, I am so blessed to be a part of your love for your husband, son and sisters. What a great model of God's joy and love you display. Of course I am astounded by your writing talent. You were the trooper the whole trip including getting up for each sunrise with Aris. Glad we all were able to provide some relief for you. Only you could find the exclusive Handicap bathroom in a private club where we were not even allowed to be at the air conditioned bar where members were. You found your way through the out of bounds locker rooms and cared for your son away from scorching weather. Some day, you will likely bring a pleasant smile and loving atmosphere to a stuffy, private country club you belong to ;)

Your words so remind me of a favorite verse...finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things(Phil 4:8).

What a pleasure it is to catch a glimpse of the photographic and narrative history of a young family as it grows. What a blessing it has been to see my long awaited daughter blossom into a partner for my beloved son. As a mother you have no peer. Take your time, enjoy every moment for what it is...your moment.
