A Monday off work is a true gift-- an opening to catch up on laundry and other household humdruminess. We rarely cash in on those type of openings, as evident if you come visit our home. Learning to let that go, just gooo. Instead, we celebrated with some loving from Allison and her camera. I should know by now that each visit will inevitably turn into a photo shoot. The photos Allison took are raw, new momma, stuff.
(Not Pictured Below) is a trek into town with a stroller on unshoveled sidewalks, crying baby and large snow drifts. An overtired babe in a coffee shop, distracted from nursing, that eventually fell asleep on my shoulder. It was the first time he fell asleep on me like that without being swaddled, shhh'd, or in a baby carrier. I could barely contain myself.

There is no place better to go in the dead of winter than greenhouse after greenhouse. Ott's Exotic Plants is the type of place you could drive by every single day and never realize that you really must, immediately, pull over and wander inside. Aris liked the giant fruit trees and I wished to be a better gardener. We pulled him around in a dirt caked wagon and wedged him on my hip so we could lean over and smell the moisture, dirt, and thrill of the upcoming spring season. You can tell he is a little tired, but he stayed a relaxed sort of inquisitive. Allowing me to pick up and put down plants, humming and chatting with my sister. He keeps doing this thing where he reaches to hold my face, pulls it close to his, and then rests gently on my face. Then, he stays there and I breathe him in.
One day, if we don't live a quick drive away, our hearts will ache quite hard. How wonderful it has been to be surrounded by family. True love and blessings. This day with you, Al. Thanks for the coffee, two bright green hanging baskets, kissing your nephew, and all the fun firsts I felt today. Aris seemed to grow from a newborn to a child. We wish every week could have a day off.
and as we were checking out, I put Aris down on the counter. He seemed balanced, so I took my hands from around his waist. We celebrated, along with the nice lady behind the register, Aris sitting up for the first time. Haha, oh we must have looked ridiculous, squealing and giggling at him like that. A, just sitting there, like he had done it a billion times. Allison took a picture and I smile every single time that I look at it. He hasn't sat up like that since. xx L
